Eat, Stay and Shoot - The travel photograph that is worth Rs 1 Lakh

Photography is a way of expression that is personal and subjective to the individual taking the picture. Travel photography is not just about places, nature, architecture and landscapes but is the individual’s representation that captures the essence of the destination.

With the objective of identifying and nurturing this talent among discerning travellers staying at The Serai Resorts in Kabini, Bandipur, Chikmagalur or Barefoot Resorts at the Andamans, the luxury resorts chain organised a photography contest last year. The best entries were showcased today at an event held at the Coffee Day Square, Bangalore. Travel photography could not have been more rewarding as the photographer of the winning picture received a grand cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh.

The expert panel which comprised of award winning photographers like Sudhir Shivaram, Harish Shantikumar, Ganesh Shankar and Joshua Barton who judged the entries by budding photographers, were present at the event. They highlighted the importance of inspiration in creating meaningful frames, how the images captured the essence of the destination, and how travel and wildlife lies at the heart of travel. City’s renowned and versatile artist Shan Re, enthralled the audience by recreating the winning photograph in her signature style, live at the venue.

Sharing his views on the occasion, Mr Samit Sawhny, Director Coffee Day Hotels and Resorts said, "The Serai and Barefoot photo-contest was initiated with the vision of providing travellers the opportunity to discover the hidden shutterbug in them. All the entries that were received across the four categories of Nature and Landscape, In and Around, My Moments and Architecture, have helped us also see these destinations in a different light, through their eyes. The images evoke a sense of peace within, a feeling that a traveller seeks when planning a vacation. With the overwhelming response that the contest has received, we are planning to make this contest an annual property that every budding photographer wants to partake in.”
