PhonePe’s Made-for-India POS device witnesses rapid adoption among store owners in Bengaluru
PhonePe, India’s fastest growing payments platform, has witnessed rapid adoption of its indigenously-designed and built Point of Sales (POS) device from small and large merchants in Bengaluru. In the few weeks since the device’s launch, 5000 units have already been installed at Supermarkets, Dine-in restaurants, Kirana stores etc.
The robust and cost effective POS device allows merchants to enter the digital payments domain as it focuses on a simple approach to digital transactions. The device is the lowest cost POS device in the world and serves the needs of small merchants. Apart from being low-cost, the device is portable and has no scope for misuse. It can run for 8–12 months on AA batteries. Using the device to accept payments eliminates the need for an Internet connection. The POS device also works as a calculator and eliminates the need of having a separate calculator to tally the amount a customer has to pay.
Commenting on the positive impact of the POS device, Pradeep Dodle, Head of Business Development, PhonePe said, “We are delighted with the response to our POS device in Bengaluru where 5000 units have been sold since we launched it a few weeks back. Buoyed by the success of the pilot, we are committed to expand aggressively and have set ourselves the target of selling about 1 million units in 2018. We are really excited at the potential of the PhonePe POS device which ticks all the boxes for Indian shopkeepers to adopt digital payments rapidly - it is cheap, easy to use, highly durable and works as a calculator. We are confident our POS device to help accelerate the pace of digital inclusion for millions of local merchants and customers in India.”
Thousands of small and large stores in Bengaluru such as Kanti Sweets, Bhartiya Jalpan, MK Home Needs, Kota Kachori, Big Brewsky and Biggies to name a few have seen a direct positive impact on their sales due to the adoption of the POS device from PhonePe.
Talking about PhonePe’s POS device installed in their store Biraja Rout, Managing Director of Beamer Food Pvt Ltd (BIGGIES) said, “The POS device makes transactions easy for our customers. All they need to do is bring their mobile phone close to the device and it automatically shows the merchant details & amount to be paid. I don’t even need Internet to be able to confirm that a transaction was successful.”
Added Robin Jain, Director, Kota Kachori, “Most of our payments are already happening through the PhonePe POS. Right from our shop assistant to sales staff everyone is able to use the POS device as they are all comfortable using a calculator and this device looks and works just like one.”
